The original tycoons of San Francisco's Nob Hill
As of September 2024, America is now home to 801 billionaires. The globe’s largest pocket of billionaires is the Bay Area, with 63 and counting. It’s always been that way. In the late 1800s, four of the richest men in the world all lived in the same Nob Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. Some have called them the greatest swindlers in U.S. history.
